I have loved every line of your Training blog. Thank you so much for sharing. What a journey! You are going to do great, and we can’t wait to celebrate your success.❤️
Hi Claire, I am sitting at the edge of the water at Mulberry Hill , hoping you have a great week and an even better run next weekend. I know you will do well. Just remember it is a damn long race.
Your race week is here! A time to prepare (behind you), a time to perform (upon you), a time to recover (ahead of you).
Parts of training didn't go precisely to plan (understatement). You rolled with the punches, made adjustments, moved in the right direction (song reference). To borrow your words, "rugged flexibility" may not have been the expected focus of the training, but it will prove excellent training for the marathon.
I was glad to read that the weekly practice of writing and sharing helped you "learn about [your]self" and uncover a "record of [your] resilience". I hope these thoughts of yours make themselves available in the late stages of the marathon. May they be for you an ever ready source of strength and confidence.
Re: Shoes. Recognizing variables and doing a test run sounds like a good plan. You've been around the track a few times. Trust your instincts.
Re: Lennie, Steph, et al. Greatness indeed! It sounds like you had a fulfilling visit. Like you, I think it's cool when someone who has reached the top of her field not only recognizes the contributions of others but also, when everyone's focus is on her and her individual achievements, redirects their focus to others and those critical community contributions. It does not detract one bit from the individual or her achievements. It invites others to share more fully in them.
Let me close with a quote from Deena Kastor's book (have I mentioned Deena before?): "In running, you learn that the way you run matters more than place or time. These women knew this. They ran to their physical, mental, and emotional capacity that day, displaying the strongest version of themselves." I look forward to seeing the version of you on race day. Write your race.
